Understanding the Equal Sign and Balancing Equations
Students will apply addition strategies as they complete four different station rotations to help understand that the equal sign represents a relationship where the expressions on each side of the equal sign represents the same value.
Analyzing Bar Graphs: Candy Machines
Working in groups, students will examine a bag of candy to determine if the machine that bags the candy is working properly. They will organize data on the colors of the candy in a frequency table and a bar graph. They will calculate the fraction of each color in the bag and compare the fractions to a quota set up by the factory to determine if the machine needs maintenance. Students will create a report about their findings, write a question that requires students to interpret data represented in a bar graph, and reflect in their journals.

Measurement Properties for 2-D and 3-D Shapes
Students will be able to use a problem-solving model, tools and techniques, communication, representations, relationships, and justifications when solving problems involving two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes. Students will integrate content knowledge and skills so that students are prepared to use mathematics in everyday life, society, and the workplace.

Students will design a foil boat and add mass to test relative density.

Building Stamina During Stations
Students will participate in differentiated stations based on counting coins, comparing values, and purchasing items within various wants and needs. Students will self-assess their stamina development throughout the lesson.

Students will understand the different representations of graphical data, through reading, listening, and comprehension of a word problem so they can devise a problem solving plan that addresses the entire problem.
Understanding Mathematical Word Problems
The student is expected to represent word problems involving addition and subtraction of whole numbers up to 20 using concrete and pictorial models and number sentences.
Camping with Fractions
Students will create equivalent fractions using measuring cups to make a trail mix and use the fractions to find the total amount of different ingredients.

Students will help the principal collect cans for a can food drive. The students will be able to solve math word problems using the UPS✓ (UNDERSTAND what the problem is asking, make a PLAN, SOLVE the problem, and then CHECK to see if the answer makes sense) song/strategy, draw to show their work, and write a number sentence to go with their problem.

Students will use numberless and numbered logic problems as well as a rubric to practice self-reflection and justify their thinking.

Students will decompose a number up to 20 using manipulatives and graphic organizers.

Solving Multi-Step Word Problems with Rational Numbers
Students will apply strategies and the use of an analysis tool to break down steps in a word problem to understand the vocabulary and processes necessary to apply correct math operations and analyze solution feasibility.
Comparing in Stations
Students will extend their knowledge of greater than and less than to numbers 80–120. Students will work in stations to deepen their understanding and have multiple experiences with the concept.
Fraction Division is Sweet
In learning stations, students use concrete objects, pictorial models, and digital models to represent and divide whole numbers by unit fractions and unit fractions by whole numbers.
