Hooked on Inferring
In this lesson, students use text evidence and schema to create an inference. Students read informational text and practice inferring with varying levels of support.
Courts of Measure
Students will use measurement tools to measure the dimensions of the basketball court and calculate the area of the court.
Circuit Designers
Students will work in small groups of two to three on a structured challenge around circuits which includes requirements such as including using a switch or a conductor. They will then use that knowledge to work on a collaborative challenge to solve a relevant problem related to elephant poaching. Students will create a containment system that will have an alarm system, a lighting system, and a way to pass through. Finally, they will review the other projects and discuss similarities and differences in the design.
Analyzing the Text for Summary and Connections
Students will critically think and communicate; they will summarize a text to understand and make connections to other texts, themselves, and the world.
45-45-90 Triangles
To learn the pattern of the side lengths of a 45-45-90 triangle, students complete a gallery walk, a card sort activity starting with using the Pythagorean theorem, and activity to locate if there is an error in a presented problem and if so to identify what the error is.
Working with Literal Equations
The lesson will provide a conceptual basis for illustrating the parallelism between solving multi-step equations and translating literal equations into solutions for specified variables.
2 Texas Middle School Fluency Assessment: Administering and Interpreting Results

This binder details how to score and interpret the results of the Texas Middle School Fluency Assessment (TMSFA). This course is Unit 4 of the Texas Adolescent Literacy Academy (TALA). These materials are available for view only; no credit or certificate is provided.
6 Introduction to Integrating Science into CTE Classrooms, Part 1

Learn how to integrate science into your existing CTE curriculum by identifying science embedded in the curriculum, recognizing the scientific practices, and understanding the five core principles and six essential elements of an effective science-enhanced CTE lesson plan. Please note, this is part 1 of a two-part course on integrating Science into CTE classrooms. Participants must complete both parts 1 and 2 to meet the professional development requirements for CPE hours. This training, previously available in Texas Courses, is now openly available but does not earn course provider credit and no certificate will be offered. The course will be available for credit in summer 2020.
7 Introduction to Integrating Science into CTE Classrooms, Part 2

Before you begin this part, please ensure you have successfully completed Introduction to Integrating Science Part 1 in order to meet the professional development requirements of the course for CPE hours. Apply effective strategies to an existing lesson CTE lesson plan to begin integrating science into your curriculum. This training, previously available in Texas Courses, is now openly available but does not earn course provider credit and no certificate will be offered. The course will be available for credit in summer 2020.
5 Introduction to Integrating Math into CTE Classrooms, Part 1

Learn how to integrate math into your existing CTE curriculum by identifying the mathematical concepts embedded in the curriculum, and learn the seven essential elements of an effective math-enhanced CTE lesson plan. Please note, this is part 1 of a two-part course on integrating Math into CTE classrooms. Participants must complete both parts 1 and 2 to meet the professional development requirements for CPE hours. This training, previously available in Texas Courses, is now openly available but does not earn course provider credit and no certificate will be offered. 84 CTE Work-Based Learning

This course introduces basic laws, rules, and procedures relevant to teaching Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses that involve work-based learning (WBL) at the secondary school level in Texas. Because state and federal laws change frequently, it also explains how to find current laws, rules, and guidelines related to WBL. Teachers will learn what authentic WBL is and how to ensure students learn the skills and knowledge appropriate for their career pathway through collaborative partnerships with local employers. This material is available for view only in the Texas Gateway and a certificate is not awarded. Referenced quizzes are not available.
Texas Courses Update

Professional development courses for CPE credit are transitioning to a new course platform; professional development courses are no longer available through the Texas Gateway. As part of this process, TEA has reviewed courses that were previously offered through the Gateway. This resource provides an update on current status and availability.
New Resource Link to Test
Here's the new resource link to test. Let's hope this is a go!
Uncovering Tone in Poetry
Students will interpret the tone of a poem, cite text evidence to justify their response, and research a synonym for the word they chose to expand their understanding of Tier 2 vocabulary.
Fractions with Multi-Step Problems
Students will be able to work collaboratively while baking to find the least common multiples of fractions with unlike denominators and create equivalent fractions, then add or subtract.
Syntax Shuffle
Students will analyze one of four ways to incorporate grammar and syntax into their everyday language through the use of technological instruction. Once students have comprehended their grammatical type, they will practice among their peers to master and share the lesson (grammar rule) in a Jigsaw activity.
Particular Polygons
Students will be able to classify 2D figures by analyzing their attributes.
Civil War Inferring
Students will use Social Studies Weekly newspaper to make inferences about historical events using schema and text evidence.
Sticky Note Summarizing
Students will determine the important parts of a story and recognize and compose an individual summary by using color-coordinated sticky notes and the Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then (SWBST) strategy. Students will practice correctly identifying the parts of the SWBST strategy during a read-aloud. Students will work in groups and read a short story together, identify key components, and compose a written summary. Students will demonstrate their ability to recognize a good summary by writing two components of summarization on an exit ticket.
