Strike a Pose
The students will solve twostep equations through modeling, expressing algebraically, and writing out the steps to their solutions.
Comparing Box Plots and Dot Plots
This lesson is a 90minute lesson that can be delivered in one block or split into two 45 minute lessons. The first part of the lesson engages students in a notice/wonder activity that is designed to help students begin to question how data is represented in box plots and dot plots. The second part of the lesson is designed for students to compare data in box plots and dot plots and identify truths and untruths about the representations.
Wrap It Up! Lateral Area and Surface Area of Prisms
Students will be given a net to calculate how much material it would take to cover the surface.
Does Paper Have Volume?
Students will be involved in a problemsolving lesson to determine if paper has volume, find the volume of a piece of paper and a ream of paper, and determine how many pieces of paper will fit inside their classroom.
Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) Related to the Unit
Click below to learn about the TEKS related to this unit.
Discovering the Ratio of Pi
Students will discover the ratio of pi by relating the circumference to the diameter of various circles. Students will use this ratio to approximate the formulas for circumference.
Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) Vertical Alignment
Click below to learn about the TEKS related to the unit and Research Lesson. The highlighted student expectations are the chosen focus for the Research Lesson.
Area of Composite Figures
Student groups will work collaboratively using the appropriate formulas to find the area of simple figures and combine the area of each shape to find the area of composite figures in realworld situations.
Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) Vertical Alignment

Diagramming Dinosaurs
Students will use a verbal representation to explore a constant rate of change in the size of dinosaurs over a period of time and represent their data by graphing.
Using Theoretical and Experimental Probability to Make Predictions
Given an event to simulate, the student will use theoretical probabilities and experimental results to make predictions and decisions.
TXRCFP: Texas Response to Curriculum Focal Points for K8 Mathematics Revised 2013
The Texas Response to Curriculum Focal Points Revised 2013 was created from the 2012 revision of the TEKS as a guide for implementation of effective mathematics instruction by identifying critical areas of content at each grade level.
Vertical Alignment Charts for Revised Mathematics TEKS
This resource provides vertical alignment charts for the revised mathematics TEKS.
Exploring the Ratio of Circumference to Diameter
This activity provides an opportunity for students to explore the ratio of the circumference of its circle to the length of its diameter in order to generalize the ratio for pi.
Drawing Conclusions about ThreeDimensional Figures from Nets
Given a net for a threedimensional figure, the student will make conjectures and draw conclusions about the threedimensional figure formed by the given net.
Converting Between Measurement Systems
Given a realworld situation with measurements in either metric/SI or customary units, the student will solve a problem requiring them to convert from one system to the other.
Interactive Math Glossary
Recognizing Misuses of Graphical or Numerical Information
Given a problem situation, the student will analyze data presented in graphical or tabular form by evaluating the predictions and conclusions based on the information given.
Evaluating Methods of Sampling from a Set of Data
Given a problem situation, the student will evaluate a method of sampling to determine the validity of an inference made from the set of data.
Using Multiplication by a Constant Factor
Given problems involving proportional relationships, the student will use multiplication by a constant factor to solve the problems.
Predicting, Finding, and Justifying Data from a Table
Given data in table form, the student will use the data table to interpret solutions to problems.
Predicting, Finding, and Justifying Data from Verbal Descriptions
Given data in a verbal description, the student will use equations and tables to solve and interpret solutions to problems.
Determining Slopes from Equations, Graphs, and Tables
Given algebraic, tabular, and graphical representations of linear functions, the student will determine the slope of the relationship from each of the representations.
