Knowledge and Skills Statement
Inquiry and research: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking using multiple texts. The student engages in both short-term and sustained recursive inquiry processes for a variety of purposes.
Demonstrated Proficiency of ELA.1.13.A
Observe students during discussions. In first grade, research will be significantly guided by an adult. A simple way to assess students’ abilities regarding this SE is to score students using a rubric.
Sample rubric:
- The student is unable to ask or answer questions for informal or formal inquiry.
- The student is able to answer questions, but had difficulty staying on topic or asking purposeful questions.
- The student is able to answer questions and ask questions about a topic, but the questions did not align directly with the inquiry process.
- The student is able to answer questions and generate questions for informal and formal inquiry.
