Knowledge and Skills Statement
Developing and sustaining foundational language skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking--beginning reading and writing. The student develops word structure knowledge through phonological awareness, print concepts, phonics, and morphology to communicate, decode, and spell.
Demonstrated Proficiency of ELA.1.2.F
Observe handwriting during classwork, review handwriting in a notebook, or collect a portfolio of student writing samples and apply a rubric.
Sample Rubric:
- The student is still developing letter formation and spacing between letters and words.
- The student has legible letter formation but is developing the ability to write on a line with correct directionality and distance from the edge of the paper.
- The student has neat letter formation and has mastered the ability to write on a line, but spaces are not consistent between words.
- The student has neat letter formation and can write on a line with proper spacing between words.
