Knowledge and Skills Statement
Developing and sustaining foundational language skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking--vocabulary. The student uses newly acquired vocabulary expressively.
Demonstrated Proficiency of ELA.1.3.B
Use a checklist to monitor student ability. Sample checklist items may include the following:
- The student is able to explain the meaning of words in a text, using illustrations as clues for meaning.
- The student is able to use new vocabulary in an appropriate context after it is introduced.
- The student is able to visibly look at a text and illustrations for clues to help her explain the meaning of new words.
