Administer a Keyboarding Test

Keyboarding tests should range from five to ten tasks a week with possible bonus challenges if necessary. Begin with numbers and upper- and lower-case letters, then introduce words and special keys.

Notes: 

• In the beginning, a visual reference may be required to assist students in the assessments. (e.g.,  A list of words and numbers the students must reproduce using a keyboard.)  
• As students gain more experience, auditory prompts should be provided. (e.g., Use the shift key and type an upper-case "M", now type a lower-case "e".)
• Spelling words are a good source for visual references or auditory prompts. 
• Numbers up to 120 may be used.
• Over time, simple sentences aligned with reading, language, and arts standards should be included.
