Use a checklist when observing students using a variety of tools and resources to perform specific tasks. The observation checklist can include the following:
- The student selects the appropriate software or program to meet the goals of each task.
- The student starts the application or device appropriately.
- The student logs into the application.
- The student uses the appropriate software or program functions to meet the goals of each task.
- The student saves the work product and can locate it again.
- The student's work product meets the goal of specified tasks.
- The student logs off the application or program and device.

Further Explanation
The further explanation is designed to be a resource for educators that helps them better understand the topic their students are learning. Further explanations may be written at a more complex level than would be expected for students at the grade level.
The computational thinking process begins with breaking a problem into smaller parts and then identifying similarities or common differences that describe patterns and make predictions. Once relevant information is organized, students identify algorithms to solve a problem or complete a task.
