Knowledge and Skills Statement
Developing and sustaining foundational language skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking--beginning reading and writing. The student develops word structure knowledge through phonological awareness, print concepts, phonics, and morphology to communicate, decode, and spell.
Demonstrated Proficiency of ELA.2.2.E
Use a rubric to monitor progress by observing handwriting during classwork, reviewing handwriting in a notebook, or collecting a portfolio of student writing samples.
Sample rubric:
- The student is developing cursive letters in isolation and is using incorrect strokes to form the letters.
- The student is developing cursive letters in isolation, but is using correct letter strokes, so he or she is unable to connect letters to form legible words.
- The student is forming cursive letters correctly with correct strokes and is attempting to connect the letters to form words but 4) cannot do so consistently.
- The student is forming cursive letters correctly with correct strokes and is able to connect letters to form words.
