Knowledge and Skills Statement
Composition: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking using multiple texts--writing process. The student uses the writing process recursively to compose multiple texts that are legible and uses appropriate conventions.
Demonstrated Proficiency of ELA.3.11.B.ii
Have students use an organizing structure to guide their writing. During one-on-one conferencing or in partner groups, have students explain orally what the main idea is for their text. Then have students explain how the details support the main idea. Guide students as they develop these aspects of their writing.

This SE requires students to support and elaborate on their ideas using facts and details. Students select facts and details that help a reader better understand the ideas they are attempting to convey.
