Knowledge and Skills Statement

Developing and sustaining foundational language skills: listening, speaking, discussion, and thinking -- oral language. The student develops oral language through listening, speaking, and discussion.

Use a checklist while observing the student throughout the day. Intentionally give directions in different settings and observe the student as the student completes the directions.

Examples

  • Arrival: "Hang your backpack on the hook and then sit on the carpet." "Put your name tag away, put your folder in the basket, and then choose a center."
  • Circle Time: "Stand up and then pick up your book." "Close your marker, put the marker in the bag, and then pass the bag to the front."
  • Center Time: "Place the pan on the stove, and then put the bacon in the pan." "Close the lids to the paint cups, put the paint cups on the shelf, and then put the paint brushes in the sink."
