Developing and sustaining foundational language skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking--vocabulary. The student uses newly acquired vocabulary expressively.
Demonstrated Proficiency of ELA.K.3.B
Ask students questions about how they know the meaning of words. During a read-aloud, shared reading, or small-group reading activity, an exchange might go like this:
Teacher: What do you think the word ____ means?
Student: I think it means _____.
Teacher: How did you know that? OR What in the book helped you figure that out?
Student: I looked at the picture . . . or Because it says . . . right here in the story.
