Force, motion, and energy. The student understands the behavior of thermal energy as it flows into and out of systems.
Glossary terms and definitions are consistent across kindergarten through high school in the TEKS Guide. The definitions are intended to give educators a common understanding of the terms regardless of what grade level they teach. Glossary definitions are not intended for use with students.

the energy caused by the motion of objects or particles within a system

the smallest unit of a substance or material

a particular kind of matter with uniform properties; can be seen, touched, and/or measured

regularly interacting or interdependent group of items forming a unified whole

the measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles within a substance; a measure of heat energy; measured in degrees Celcius

a phenomenon of energy that measures the random motion (kinetic energy) of particles (vibrations in solids or free motion in a gas) in a fluid
